Reference charts

Reference charts for the trades

Code tables and rules of thumb you look up on the job, laid out as plain tables with the edition and section they come from. Our calculators read the same numbers, so a chart and its calculator never disagree.

How these charts are kept accurate

Each chart is generated from a single data file. Where a value comes from a model code (the National Electrical Code, the International Residential, Plumbing or Energy Conservation Code), the table names the edition and section, and the page says so. Codes are adopted locally, often with amendments and sometimes years late, so confirm the edition your inspector enforces.

Values that are not code (material weights, paint spread rates, shingle coverage) are typical manufacturer or supplier figures and are labelled that way. The label on the product you buy always takes precedence.
